About Us
DESIGNED WITH NATURE IN MIND
CAREFULLY SELECTED MATERIALS
Natural cork is at the heart of every ASPORTUGUESAS sole. Used in a unique compound alongside carefully selected materials, it is part of our approach to developing footwear designed for comfort, durability and everyday wear.
CORK AND CARBON STORAGE
Cork oak forests play an important role in the natural carbon cycle. As they grow and regenerate their bark, cork oak trees absorb and store carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. By using natural cork as one of our key materials, we celebrate a renewable resource that is closely connected to these unique ecosystems.
RADITIONAL CORK HARVESTING
Harvesting cork is a traditional craft that has been passed down through generations. The bark is carefully removed by skilled workers using specialised hand tools, a process that requires experience and precision to preserve the cork oak tree throughout each harvesting cycle.
SUPPORTING LOCAL CRAFTSMANSHIP
Our footwear is developed and manufactured in Portugal in collaboration with experienced partners. This close relationship reflects the knowledge, expertise and craftsmanship that have shaped Portuguese footwear for generations.
HARVESTED WITHOUT CUTTING DOWN THE TREE
Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak without cutting down the tree. Once removed, the bark regrows and can be harvested again around every nine years, allowing the tree to continue growing for many decades.
THOUGHTFUL PACKAGING
We continually review our packaging and communication materials to identify opportunities for improvement. Wherever practical, we carefully select recycled and recyclable materials while optimising the use of inks and other resources.
